Exploring Urban Literature FINAL PROJECT

This project is DUE Friday, November 9th. You may need to work on it outside of school. I repeat, you may need to work on this outside of school. This PROJECT will address standards (located at the end)




FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS:
1. Create a blog post titled the same as the one I have titled this post, "Exploring Urban Literature"
2. Type your answers to the questions (LISTED BELOW) in a WORD document. Upload that word document to a THUMB DRIVE and/or attach the DOCUMENT in google docs.
3. Answer all parts to ALL the questions.
4. Give your answers to a peer so that they can check that your response is thorough, answers all parts, makes sense, and is free from spelling & grammatical errors.
5. Make changes as suggested by peers.
6. Have Ms. Carton take a look at your responses before doing the next step.
7. Copy and paste your answers into a TAGXEDO.
    a. Open a firefox window, go to tagxedo.com
    b. Click on the dark red text that say, "Start Now"
    c. Click the icon under "Tagxedo" that says, "load". Then click "Submit"
    d. Copy and paste your text from your word document OR upload the WORD document.
    e. Play with the theme (which are the color themes), the shape, and the font until you find the one
       that you like the best.
    f. Click on the icon under the word Tagxedo "save/share"
    g. Save it as a "1MP JPG". It will save on your desktop.
    h. Here is an example of one:
8. Create a blog post titled, Urban Lit Tagxedo (including the capital letters)
9. Upload your tagxedo into that post by clicking on the picture icon located along the tool bar, next to LINK. Post it when done.

QUESTIONS:
1. What elements/motifs of your book are signature or representative of Urban Literature as a genre? Can you discuss why these are elements of Urban Lit

2. What elements of Urban Literature can you connect with? Make all three types of connections and explain them in detail

3. What elements or aspects of Urban Literature are still a challenge for you? Explain why you think this might be a challenge.

4. What do you ponder, or think about, now that you didn't before (or did much less before). What is the benefit of what you ponder now? Go into detail.

5. Describe Urban Lit in detail, to grandma, who has no clue. Talk about all the story/literary elements, motifs, intended audience, economic status, example authors, and who might benefit from these types of books.

6. Research "Urban Literature" and tell 3 interesting facts. Tell why you included these three facts. (Make sure you cite your sources in a bibliographical form)

7. Do a BIO on your author, making sure to include the information that suggests to the reader how your author ended up in Urban Literature. Tell the information about your author that is the unique details.

8. Do a book showcase: Describe these story elements in your book: exposition, mood/tone, rising action, climax, motifs, direct characterization, indirect characterization, symbols, themes, conflict types, what the conflicts are

9. Give a couple common themes you think might be found in Urban Lit. Why do you think these themes are often within Urban Literature?

Standards for this project:

RL.04.ST.08.01 Continues to practice visualization skills.
Creating the visual elements from the information you find, whether it be Prezi, Comic Life, Glogster, GoAnimate, I-movie, etc. Also with the blog posts and tagxedos
RL.04.ST.09.01 Analyzes author's craft: mood, tone, historical context, and use of literary elements.

By answering these questions in detail, you should be addressing how the context, mood, and tone are different for Urban Lit (and when addressing how specific author of choice addresses these elements)

Internet research to explore Urban Literature well enough to create complete particular task and create visualization of choice.

RL.04.ST.02.01 Connects the conclusion of a text to self, world, or another text.

  1. Do we specifically have to put the Answers of the questions on word? or can we just answer the questions on google docs?
